Does that mean it is not a good solution, or does it mean it's an exceptional solution?
I don't think you can make phone calls on it, but I could be wrong.
On the other hand, you can plug in multiple USB hard drives containing digital music files, and it will play all digital formats up through DSD512. It also has a port to install an internal SSD just like the Eversolo player. It can stream digital music from any streaming website, and it can be used as an external DAC for a computer streamer. Therefore, I'm wondering what you mean by your remark. Do you think it's a bad solution for a thousand dollars?
Thanks!
Follow Ups:
To name a few....Unlike smartphones FiiO and others (like Eversolo) develop their own customized Android Audio core which bypasses Android's restrictive and sound degrading internal sample rate conversion.
Android phones don't have dual high precision low-noise audio clocks.
Android phones don't use the flagship AKM DAC combo chipset AK4191/ AK4499EX for complete separation of digital and analog circuitry. My SMSL DAC and Eversolo Streamer / DAC / Preamp both use this unique AKM chipset as does your FiiO.
The phones don't have the latest generation XMOS USB interface for maximum USB compatibility and support for higher-res audio including 768KHz/32bit PCM and native DSD 512.
I could probably go on and on but these stand out off the top of my head.

based upon a cost effective platform.
I prefer separating the streamer and DAC devices for a more robust solution using discrete outputs.
There's no reason you can't use a different streamer with the FiiO S15 because it has a DAC input. It also has both an I 2 S output and a coax digital output for those who want to use a different DAC. It's an extremely versatile component. Moreover, it has the latest top-of-the-line AKM DAC chipset. Therefore, it's definitely a good solution, and a very cost effective platform when you consider all its capabilities. In other words, it's a single box that can do it all, or it can do things separately if you want.
It's obviously not a component that you prefer, but for me, it works just fine, and sounds very good. It does all the digital things that I want to do without connecting a computer to my audio system. I think it's hard to beat for a thousand dollars, but I could be wrong.
Happy listening!

One can buy something and never use half what they paid for.My experience is what you hear most with a DAC is the "A" part - the analog output stage and in my case, its separate power supplies. One used for the digital side and one for the analog section sourced by an R core transformer. No electrolytic caps in the signal path.
While all streamers ARE computers, I likewise prefer not to use a general purpose PC for that application. The media server housing the audio and video libraries feeds half a dozen endpoints around the house and garage via WiFi or Ethernet using a medical isolator.
I'm currently traveling for a large family gathering, but enjoy listening to music on a daily basis. :)
