Help,
I am without a preamp and found a number of suggestion here on Audio Asylum about using a Oppo 205 as a preamp. I followed the directions here on the Audio Asylum and was able to get my Oppo to function as a preamp limited to my Oppo 205. I was hoping I could use it also to hookup my Turntable/Phono Stage. My phono stage is a Modwright PH 9.0 XT.
So, my question is can the Oppo also function as a preamp for Analog equipment. If so, can someone walk me through the setup? If not, I will look for an inexpensive alternative.
Thanks
Richard

I use my Oppo and phono stage without a separate pre-amp. You need a phono stage that has a volume control.
There's no elegant way to do what you want.
I have a set of interconnect cables plugged into the phono stage and another set from the Oppo. I just make sure that the appropriate cables are plugged into the amp before I turn the system on. If you decide to switch sources you need to turn everything off before switching the cables to avoid damaging the speakers due to loud pops. I don't find that set-up to be burdensome.
I originally had an ARC pre-amp, and when I got my first Oppo I bought a multi-channel tube pre-amp, and in the course of trying it out and comparing the amps and adjusting the distance and volume on the channels I discovered that my system sounded better without any pre-amp at all. I also discovered that I didn't need any distance or volume adjusting. ( speakers were all equidistant and volumes tested out all equal )
Hello,The Oppo 205 has several digital inputs but no analog inputs. You won't be able to connect your phono stage directly. I suppose you could rig up an ADC and make it work, but I don't think you will be pleased with that solution. I've used the 205 as a DAC and streamer (ethernet). It has volume control via the remote, although I find the volume buttons to be awkwardly located for my clumsy fingers.
I haven't been in the preamp market for years since I switched to an integrated. I recommend seeking advice on inexpensive alternatives over on the Amp/Preamp Asylum. Before the next wave of tariffs kicks in.
Good luck.
EDIT: I see that you already did that and got some good feedback.
. . . in theory, practice and theory are the same; in practice, they are different . . .

I don't think so. The only inputs are HDMI, USB and coax/optical S/PDIF.
