I just gave them another listen at higher volume and still had the same impression.
I've recorded 71 vinyl LPs in DSD128 and I like the sound quality better than 24/96 PCM. I used to record on an Alesis Masterlink at 24/96, but I upgraded to a TASCAM DA-3000 DSD recorder. I find their to be less noise in-between cuts with DSD. I also find DSD sounds more natural and realistic. I used to think that my 24/96 digital copies of vinyl were perfect. Then, I heard my first DSD128 recording of vinyl and I immediately thought it was even more perfect. I really like DSD.
I now own 48 digital recordings in DSD256 and these are my favorites beyond any doubt. I've never heard DSD512, but DSD256 sounds better than anything I've heard.
