In another thread I was musing that I like Jazz music, but not most Jazz singers, (whom I find are just crooning boring stuff)
Though I like Mark Murphy.
Then I thought what if Jazz worked with some rapper to create a new sort of sound. Especially if the rapper was doing it extemporaneously
If the rapper could 'catch' the Jazz spirit...
I think it could be really exciting
So, does anyone know of such a (successful) blend?

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond to your post, but I just Joined AA a week ago - and it took me a few days to find what I was looking for in my . . . ahem . . . "widely dispersed" CD collection.
Elizabeth, I've got a CD from 1993, on the Chrysalis/EMI label (#F2-21998), titled Jazzmatazz: An Experimental Fusion of Hip-Hop and Live Jazz . It's hosted by Guru and features Carleen Anderson, Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, N'Dea Davenport, Ronny Jordan, Courtney Pine, Lonnie Liston Smith, MC Solaar, Gary Barnacle, Zachary Breaux, DC Lee, and Simon Law. The CD is pristine - and listening to it this afternoon reminded me of why it made me grin the first time I played it.
If you're interested in the CD, and can't acquire a copy near where you're located, send me an e-mail (smilinkev@gmail.com) and I'll be happy to drop it in the mail to you. I would like to get it back eventually, but you're welcome to keep it for as long as it's useful for the project in which you're involved. [You don't need to pay anything for the "long-term rental," of course. Just pay it forward when another inmate lets it be known that she/he is searching for something you've got.]
Keep listening and keep smilin',
Kev
Nice album. Guru had a few subsequent releases, yet none reached the near-greatness of Jazzamataz: Vol 1 IMO.
Cheers.
It would be nice if more Inmates had your generous soul...

looking for - a soulful Hip Hop producer first, melding in Jazz and other styles second - but it might suit; lovely music. Unfortunately Jun Seba passed away a ~ 2 years ago and his catalog pricey (used / NOS) is pricey.Cheers

kind of "downtempo" jazz.. but.....
Plenty of stuff in the downtempo side of this spectrum, - but that's probably not what you you're looking for. Also, too, I was thinking of Herbie Hancock's Dis is da drum.....
st Germain, - the Tourist
Kruder& Dorfmeister, the K&D Sessions (two hip-hop songs on it).
US3, - Hand on the Torch
Orishas, - O lo Cubano
"In this land right now, some are insane and they're in charge. To hell with poverty, we'll get drunk on cheap wine."
Instead of some preplanned and written down singing with typical repeated choruses, a genuine stream of consciousness vocal exposition.
...some of The Last Poets early work from the early 70's. They might be considered the originators of the modern rap/hip hop movement. Their message is political and about black liberation.
Gil Scott-Herron is also recommended to check out. His early work is similar to The Last Poets and later on had a jazz/soul groove.
GR was a popular opening act during the early 2000's in the live jam scene. The vocalist was Taylor McFerrin, son of Bobby McFerrin whose insanely popular a cappella hit from the late 80's we will never be able to purge from our memories. The guy was talented, particularly with beat-boxing, but I think his freestyle skills left something to be desired. They were fun though.
You might just dig it.and this...
