Anyone wanna take a stab at explaining some of these?
Follow Ups:
Nope. I'd find it more enjoyable to spend my time removing my right testicle with a butter knife than trying to explain some of those lyrics. There is some rap that I quite like, though it is not of the gangsta and urban stylee. Some Roots Manuva, Sarah Jones ("Your Revolution"), Guru (Jazzmatazz 1), Ursula Rucker (sp?), Rae & Christian's productions (can't remember the specific artists), Ninja Tune artists, Ronny Jordan's "The Jackall", Massive Attack, other trip hop and down tempo with rap guest artists, etc.

RaymondP.S. The next thing I will spend any significant time doing here is giving a quick opinion of some significant ambient I have been listening to recently: Loscil, Marconi Union, The Beautiful Schizophonic, Susumu Yokota, Tim Heckler, etc. After that, some other randoms and few that will be made into coasters.

title to you again?
It isn't Hip Hop, - but Hip Pop.
Not that there's anything wrong with HipHop; but we mostly talk about Hip Pop, - or new, alternative Rock, Ambient, and world music here.
Stuff that is very far away from your ridiculous and reactionary prejudices and disdain anyway. Your unreasonable and ridiculous hatred for what you call "rap" is misplaced; so please, take it outside where it belongs.
Finally, the impact of your posts are reduced greatly by your cowardly unwillingness to register here. The most important possession that anyone has here is a historical record of their experiences; trying to hide yours invalidates most everything and anything that you have to say.
Both sides of the river, there is bacteria; there must be meaning behind the moaning, is this living?
old school hip hop/rap? ;^), lol!!
really though , I guess all those posts I made in the "rock" forum fell quiet cause it seems that is the "classic rock" forum I guess...
All these years and never knew, lol!!!
btw, sordid, did you ever check out those other mofi Pixie sacd's?
what was you take on them?
you might have to hit me up in another forum, I barely ever haunt this one.....
Later....

Joey Santiago is kind of an acquaintance.
My cosongwriting partner and singer in my band played a bit with Joey after he moved to LA. And, - we warmed up the Pixies a bunch of years ago, - when we are all a bit smaller, - and before the Berkeley Square turned into a furniture store.
That being said, - although I liked them more at the time, - it was really only the Sister Rosa, C'mon Pilgrim, and a little of Doolittle that I cared for.
I dumped the redbook re-release of C'mon Pilgrim and Sister Rosa combo in order to buy the Sister Rosa only SACD. And I regret it. That Surfer Rosa SACD slogs through piles of chocolate syrup, - that just doesn't sound right to me.
I guess I gotta say that I'm afraid to try any other SACDs of the Pixies. I am happy that 4AD stepped up and had them done, - if nothing else, - for the wonderful Dead Can Discs.
Cheers Oface....
Apologies again for my bit of obnoxiousness regarding HipHop vs HipPOP and too much of "cop" with Maui...... too forward of me...

Most people I know who are familiar with this site think it's "Hip Hop", rather than "Hip Pop"................ Since they think it's a discussion board for rap music, and they're not interested in rap music, they haven't entered the forum to realize it's actually a discussion board for pop music.........I've stated to those running the Asylum that it would be smart to rename the board, due to the widespread impression that it's a discussion board for rap. I think the posts on this board would at least quadruple if this were to happen.

BB would get hundreds of posts if it were not tucked away in that
pull down menu. Hell, there are more discussions of books on Outside
than Book Boulevard. Regards,

Feel better after that condescending, fascist attack of my first amendment rights rant of yours? Sorry my opinions and views don't mesh with yours, Adolph. What was I thinking?

Are the meanings of the songs lyric content revealed in a mirror?
I guess that predudice towards a non registered poster is fine in your small mind, but predudice against lyrics that make no sense isn't. I'm a musician. Your a dealer. The analogy of me not understanding rap lyrics is like you not understanding Best Buy salesmen. Both cheapen legitimate product, both diminish the credibility of the professionals, and both sell a shitload of poor quality product. Stop kidding yourself about predudice. If your an audio salesman for more than one day, you get the customer in your shop looking for a $299.00, 500 watt 7 speaker home theatre system. Been there....done that. I'm sure you take the time to educate each of them about the sonic virtues of your amp with nested multiple negative feedback loops with the $10K price tag reduces the transient distortion likely to be heard in the Wal-Mart stereo they seen in the Sunday flyer. Rap to me is like Sanyo audio to you. Only thing different is the product. Get off your soap box.
Sordidman only became a ware whore only recently, I am guessing around a year or so...... he is a pretty good guy, do get bent about his comments.....

OK,
Look, - I don't have a right to judge you. You're not breaking any rules by posting here. However, - this forum is not about HipHop or what you call "Rap."
So, - I'll just say, - sorry.
"RAP" does not exist. So, - essentially you're painting with a broad brush here. There's a lot of HipHop music that has great lyrics.
Comments about HipHop music, really, should fall in the Rock section. Most of us do not go into the Classical section, or Music general section, and make comments about how horrible Copland or Schubert is.
But again, - I'm not the Forum police, - so I apologize.
I think that registering is the most important thing that anyone can do here, because it reflects the history of your experiences and who you are. Almost anything that anyone says here, - is centered around the extent of people's experiences.
You are making comments about ART. So, - you have seen a movie that you do not like. It's just your opinion. When you say that all of "Rap" music sucks, - you do two things, you insult the Genre, and you state your opinion as a fact.
Neither are true. For the person who loves HipHop, - their opinion is just as valuable as yours. For we have no universalizable, agreed upon, definition of "good" and "bad" music, music in general, or art in general. Gordon Lightfoot, Madonna, Notorious BIG, The Clash, and Mozart are all identical in the eyes of ann undefinable concept of art and music. Everything else is your own idiosyncratic opinion and definition, - that no one else, (or at least few others share).
Finally, I've been posting here long before I ever became a dealer. I have never made a comment here based on me being a dealer, - nor have I promoted any product that I sell, - I often promote competitors. I've been a lead bass player and songwriter for 15 plus years; if anything, my comments stem from that.
You're entitled to your opinion, but you have to understand that it's unique to you, and carries no more weight than anyone elses.

Sorry, been locked in the recording studio the past couple days. Couldn't respond. I appreciate you allowing me to post, and I take to heart your comments on registering(and I used to be registered), but I think I prefer being un-registered. Bass player, huh? Good on you. Music is the greatest thing. I really posted that to see what kind of explanations of those lyrics I would get. I've been a musician for decades and thought perhaps there was a language to those Rap songs I didn't know.
Aloha
