Ordered the CDs from Trumn on Friday pm. Received email of postage details and photo of package on Sat am. A few friendly emails exchanged. Package received Wed noon-ish. Amazing personal service, just as you explained. Lovely guy also. Now I have two Yui Onodera Cds to listen to - a brief listen suggests both are quality ambient of the style I very much like. I am looking forward to an extended soak...
Thanks for putting us onto this artist.
Edits (too many!):
I probably still need to sit down and give these a dedicated listen, but I thought I would post some brief comments. I really like both these discs – I do not prefer one over the other.
The Entropy disk is a drone/sound-wash style of ambient with vaguely recognisable instrumentation often forming the lovely tonalities/layers of the drone; there are few sounds separated from the main drone. I find it subtle, having a gentle, slow broad movements.
Relative to Entropy, the ...Beautiful Schizophrenic disc is similar, though has increased emphasis on more traditional musical structure and instrumentation. There are more easily recognisable, yet still subtle and nicely integrated instrumentation and sounds, that don't form part of the drones. In some tracks, drones form into melodies. Much of the music covers a wider frequency and has greater volume variation and obvious detailing - more power, more light, more sparkle, more readily evident textures and variation... and less muted fuzz.
Although more 'obvious', the ...Beautiful Schizophrenic disc still retains a lovely subtlety and beauty. It will perhaps be more interesting accessible to many folks who are not into the more subtle, fuzzy drone/sound-wash based ambient (e.g. some SOTL).
Cheers

I haven't listened to the Beautiful Schizophonic (you are saying "schizophrenic" as I did!!) yet as I am either filling my external hard drive with stuff or enjoying the Squeezebox as a randon play juke-box.
THis week I have gotten rid of (cruel language, he did a great job) the painter which means the house doesn't reek of fumes and all is returning to peace again.
It must almost e time to pull out the Paul Schutze discs...

included them in a separate post, long-winded as they are!Glad that the painting is complete - fumes can be overwhelming (at least for my tired liver!). I am sure it was worth the inconvenience.
That Paul Schutze track sounds really nice - I'd be interested in what you think of the discs and what you would recommend.
I am finding it difficult to get 'round to giving music a decent listen at the moment, though I have listened to the Onodera discs thoroughly; I really like them. Oh yeah, it's ... New SchizoPHONIC, not Schizophrenic! Thanks for that, tho I did initially take your lead on that one ;^)
I have started a new job this week, just bought the New Sarah Blasko album and Sylvian's Secrets of the Beehive. I have about 10 discs on loan from a friend, who is about to give me copies the downloads of the two latest Marconi Union albums, some out of print Fragile State, and some Susumu Yokota - if I like any of 'em I will buy em (except the Frag State; I don't like to short-change artists!). I also have an order of 10 discs due to arrive any old day now (some ambient, some jazzy and soulful trip hop, a little classic hip hop...). Geeze, I will be drowning in the stuff!
I am also about to embark upon my first SET amp and horn speaker design and build, though that is best kept for another forum. I still have a little learning, research, and design to do before I begin to inve$t.
Whew.
Cheers

I am beginning to wish I was still just a stumble from The Powerhouse as they have a good looking mixed bag of free stuff in addition to their usual programme.
Maybe next year... or over your way to West End... or Kangaroo Point... or out to some acreage... so it goes.
I actually haven't played the Beautiful Schizophonic disc yet as I have been quite busy and have also been enjoying just using the Squeezebox as a shuffling juke box.
I have some 3000 tracks on it now and it's proved a great buy already.
Maybe this weekend, but it's BIFF time already.

for the congrats on the job. I am now officially a QLD Public Service Jobber!I have not checked out the Powerhouse program for a while - I will. I like living in West End - I am a 10 min walk from the Boundary St. drinking and modest music establishments. For bigger name acts, there has not been much quality at the new Hi-Fi that I am interested in; the Hi-Fi also lacks soul - it is like being in the media room of a McMansion. The drinks are bloody expensive and mostly Fosters stuff - $9 for a Stella (probably brewed at Yatala)!
Sounds like you are having fun the Squeezebox! When I get other audio projects sorted, PC-based audio will be a goer.
Crap, BIFF starts THIS weekend? Damn it!
Cheers

But I don't think it's selling well... I have had 2 emails this week offering 25% off tickets for "Gala" events and just yesterday an el cheapo offer for a bunch of tickets including last night's opening event and party... which doesn't read well.
I am going to my first film tonight.

Er, ah, oops (looks around and shuffles sheepishly)... thanks for the clarification! I have had my mind on other stuff.Hmmm, I am not sure BIFF's promotion, or marketing in general, is especially effective. Promotion need not cost big $$$. That said, I am pretty oblivious these days. I used to be a member of the AFI and voted in awards etc... It takes something extra to grab my attention.
I am off to a gig a the Tiv tomorrow night – a friend of a friend is playing. I need an airing ;^)
I hope you enjoy the film and festival in general.
Cheers

It's $60 a year and you get 2 tickets to about 12 films.
They usually (although not this year) show a couple of films prior to the festival for members only and then there are special events and stuff.

And may also consider the AFI again. I am starting to get the urge to recommit to my life and throw a few metaphorical balls in the air - perhaps I will add cinema to the mix (again).
Cheers

It gives an interesting mix of the weird and wonderful including some documentaries.
I think that maybe 12 tickets a year for $66 is a bargain.
Most screenings are at the Palace or Dendy.
