Hi Sordid’
I own pretty much all of New Order's major releases on CD, except Movement! I have it on vinyl, along with much of their earlier stuff and a bootleg or two (I have no turntable tho!). I may just have to pick it up. I have The T-shirt, but can't listen to that!
I have read that the remasters with the extra discs etc. are not so great quality; IIRC the company that released them (Rhino?) supposedly made a public apology or some such. Although the extra tracks were a temptation (excuse the pun), I decided not to get 'em; I am not a collector anyway - just like listening to their music.
As for Temptation: that song has a very special place for me, for a few reasons. My GF thinks the song was written for/about me... Best? I dunno - that is a personal and/or intellectual thing. But yes, a great song by my reckoning. Special.
Did you not at some stage have a line from Temptation as your signature for your posts on AA?
Cheers

There are problems with the reissues.

Pretty well detailed there.
Now, a recall has been announced.
I'm hit and miss on his lyrics?
How about you??
I thought that Ian Curtis was an amazing poet. I also think that Bernard might not take himself too seriously with his lyrics, - so that's cool. I find some bloody arful... and some are funny, and some are great..
I went through a period of "I can't listen to New Order" cause Bernard can't sing; for years. Then one day I put on "regret" and started bouncing off the walls... So it goes....
Cheers,

Once again we agree! I think Bernard went through an anti-singer stage early on. I have really liked New Order from the moment I heard them... I came to them late.
I find the majority of the lyrics on their last two albums, well, er, how do I say this, lame. Perhaps that is more about me than them.
Regret is a fantastic song. I remember hearing it for the first time after having resigned myself to never hearing a new release from the band several years earlier. At first I was not sure it was them... perhaps an Electronic release, despite Hooky's trademark contribution... I was pretty stoked when I found out it was them. Great album also.
I also thought I would never get to see them live... but managed to see them at the Big Day Out festival.
You have heard Electronic's (Bernard and Jimmy Marr) first album (self-titled), no doubt.
Cheers
all over that one...
Time to change that signature line again; fun to use different lyrics in there from all of our favs...
Interesting RC...
I'm not going to rip on Rhino, as they have resurrected some cool stuff. But why would they not do a great job all-around? I know that I paid less than most for these re-issues, but if they're going to go through the bother.. why not do it well?
Why is it so hard for the industry to understand that they will be rewarded for bringing value, instead of punishing everyone for gouging?
Anyway, I also bought the JAM, "Setting Sons" and made the mistake of getting the bonus tracks one. It's not remastered!!!! So, I'm going to dump the bonus tracks to the Server and then go back and get the re-mastered one....when will I learn??
Cheers,

< < <Yep. I hear ya. Unfortunately the popular music industry seems to be taking an ever-more-extreme "fast-moving consumer item" approach to music. Get folks to buy it, like it (but not for too long too long), dispose of it, then move on. Churn it over. That puts them in direct competition with other fast-moving forms of titillation: computer games, fast-food, soft drink, ring tones etc. Much of popular music = fashion. Hmmm, does popular music shape society or vice versa?.. and in what ways... seems to be about getting folks to $pend.
This has been occurring with many things we once thought should deliver long-term satisfaction: phones, televisions, audio systems... Note, I don't think this approach is being adopted by all, perhaps just many, especially the big players.
My hope is that this approach will not hold up in the current financial environment and that this model will be exposed as short-term gain resulting in long-term pain. A return to longer-term satisfaction... I am not holding my breath tho.
Rant over! I have to get some work done ;^)
Edit: Er, but to answer your question, I don't know. Perhaps in the case of these re-issues they know there are some fans, and newcomers to what is a significant band, that will pony-up the $$$ no matter what is presented, especially if they don't know or care about the production quality. OTOH, New Order's production values were not particularly well regarded in any case, there are some rarities involved, and the music is timeless (to me). Dunno...
