IIRC, there was some disucussion here regarding the Editors some time back. Well, from my first listen or two, Boxer has a similar feel to the Editors' work... with perhaps a touch of Arcade Fire, muted keyboards and strings, with a Nick Cave-esque vocal.
In my book, a winner.
I will probably be on the lookout for their first album, which should be a little less polished (fine by me!).
Cheers

"Live free or die"
I posted about this a couple of months ago, - i think....
To my knowledge, - it is the National's only record. THey came around SF to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley with REM. I wanted to go but was prepping for the 508; and the band named REM is a tough one for Sordidman...
I also am way into the Editors, - and have the "End has a Start" and the "Back Room."
The critics seem to say that the first one, "Back Room" is better, but I disagree... I'm having trouble getting into that one...

Hey Sordid'
Great to hear from you again... I must have missed the previous posts - I am often missing stuff!
I thought the Boxer was their only release as well, but alas, they have a couple of previous releases.
I only have the Editors' first release, not the second. I really like it. Mucho. I will be hunting down the second release.
I am currently listening to The Last Shadow Puppets, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Emiliana Torrini (I like this girl's music), Tord Gustavson (not pop), and Blonde Redhead, amongst others... I am not sure how many of these I will be listening to in six months time, but The National, Boxer is a definite long-term deal. Just as the Editors are.
I also picked up Kings of Convenience that were mentioned somewhere here - I think the folks that like this would go nuts for the Firekites, The Bowery... this one was discussed in another AA forum, but is worth a mention here. A definite top 5 purcahse for 2008. The more I listen the more I like.
Cheers
Wow!!
Thanks RC. What a great post.... you are killing me!!
I wish that I would've seen your post BEFORE I went to Amoeba last night... :-)
I've been looking for some new music, and now you've given me a ton of ideas..
Thanks!!
I have a couple of Tord Gustavson discs, great stuff.... One can go to the ECM website and spend lots and lots of money... :-) :-) I still need to get L. Shankar's "Vision" which costs $1,2220000.00!!!!
Thanks again for all of those great tips and info on the National!!

$1,2220000.00 is a fair chunk-o-cash... might be worth it tho ;^)I am killing *myself* at the moment - I am supposed to be "saving", but after 4 years of mature-age (eek) student-induced musical poverty, I am over-compensating!
I mentioned Fleet Foxes and Band of Horses in my previous post; I am still trying to 'get into' these. They come with a reputation of being significant, but at the moment I can only appreciate them - I have not come to really feel them. Once I do, they may have some longevity (that often happens). By contrast, I got into The National - Boxer almost immediately... and I think it will have some longevity as well - a rarity!
I think I may need to ban myself form music websites - with the $AU as it is, too bloody ex$pensive!
Cheers
Edit: I get a feeling that you may like Blonde Redhead, especially their 4AD albums. Misery is a Butterfly is a little darker than the poppier 23 - I really like them both.
Edits: 11/13/08
Pick up that first album immediately, mate
I think I posted about it at some point, or was it Boxer?
I can't remember...
Thanx Dave - Yep, I am going to track down their first for sure. Your vote of confidence moves it to the top of my list.
Cheers
