I'd certainly consider them. Check eBay & don't pay more than $500.

Follow Ups:
For some reason, I can't seem to warm up to my Koss electrostatics, even when using a $3400 STAX driver unit. They definitely sound a lot better with the STAX driver than the Koss energizer, but they still don't make me want to keep listening to them. Consequently, I think you're right about their value being more like $500 than $1000. I bought my Koss electrostatics on Amazon seven years ago for a total of $681, which included tax and shipping. There's no way I would pay $1000 for them.
I bought some FiiO FT5 Planar Magnetic Headphones several months ago and I prefer listening to the FiiO headphones. They sound more robust and well balanced than the Koss electrostatics, and they cost only $450. In my opinion, these FiiO planar magnetic headphones represent a much better value and they're also easier to listen to. They have thicker ear cushions and even though they're heavier, they're more comfortable because they don't press against my ears.
Happy listening!
I like the Koss very much. What struck me right away was the lack of bass response when compared to the STAX. It's just not there. What is there is somewhat greater treble resolution & articulation. However, that absence of bass that undergirds so much music, especially rock, is quite noticeable. STAX don't thump, but it's authentic. I miss it on the Koss.
Something else I like about the Koss is their physical weight. They weigh almost nothing on your head compared to the STAX. The extension cord provided is a few feet too short, necessitating a STAX extension. That's another $100.
All and all, an experiment worth $500. I'll keep them for now. If I get tired of them, they'll go up on the AA Trader.

What about eq for the bass
Cut to razor sounding violins
I forgot to mention that the ear pads & headband are both covered in some faux leather-like "fabric." It deteriorates & becomes an ungodly mess. I may switch to leather pads. Not at all cheap, but could be worth it if I choose to keep them.
