No, the Koss ESP-950 headphones don't compare with STAX. However, I think the problem might have more to do with the Koss driver unit than the headphones themselves. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to listen to the Koss electrostatic headphones with the STAX driver unit because it requires an adapter that I don't have. The connector plugs are different. The Koss has a rectangular plug and the STAX has a round plug. I have a feeling the Koss electrostatic headphones might sound better using the STAX driver unit.
Best regards!

Follow Ups:
The acknowledged weak link is the Koss energizer. Adaptor cables are available, but the one I'm probably going to buy is $200. Pretty damn steep. As you probably know, everything electrostatic is very expensive. The Koss phones are suppose to do much better with a STAX amp.
I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try the ESP-950. We'll see how it goes. I'll report back here once I've had a chance to really compare them to my other two pairs of stats with my refurbished energizers.

I fabricated an adapter, and the Koss headphones definitely sound better when driven by my SRM-700T STAX amplifier, but they still don't compare with STAX headphones, at least not with the SR-007 MK2 and SR-9000x, which are the two STAX models I own.
Happy listening!
