A couple of years ago I became interested in IEM earphones and I began buying FiiO earphones. I guess the thing that got me interested was the fact that some of the expensive FiiO IEM earphones had multiple drivers in each earpiece. I bought several of them and one model had a single dynamic driver augmented by as many as four additional balanced armature drivers. Then all of sudden, FiiO came out with an expensive single driver IEM earphone and stopped making their multiple driver models. They began producing more of the expensive single drive models and I bought several of them. To my surprise, I decided the expensive single driver models actually sounded better than the elaborate multiple driver models. FiiO's most expensive single driver model is the FiiO FDX IEM earphone with a 12-millimeter beryllium diaphragm. To my ears, it sounds better than all my headphones and all the other IEM earphones I own.
I wonder if anyone else has tried the new FiiO FDX IEM earphone. I was told that it originally sold for $900, but when I first saw it on Amazon it was selling for $700. Then, just before Christmas, it went on sale for $493 and it's still on sale at that price from Amazon. I don't know how long it will remain at that price, but it seems to be an exceptional deal for such a high quality earphone.
Anyway, I'm very interested in finding out if anyone else has purchased this earphone and whether or not they also feel it sounds exceptional.
Happy New Year!

to the coherency of full range designs I've enjoyed for 45 years!
so, you only paid $32 to look fabulous!

Yeah, I just noticed the price reduction of the FD7. Over the holidays the FD7 remained at $600 while the FDX had been reduced to $493. I guess they've seen the error of their ways and finally dropped the price of the FD7, too.
On the other hand, there is another difference between the two, which I believe improves the sound of the FDX over the FD7. The FDX has the gold, silver, and copper wire whereas the FD7 has the silver wire only. I bought the special three metal wire for my FD7 and it seemed to make a noticeable improvement in bass performance. Therefore, the FDX might be the better deal because of the different wire. However, the two sound identical to me when using the same wire.
Both of these earphones represent the best sounding earphones I've ever heard and I'm very happy with them.
Best regards,

Some might feel that the gold+silver+copper stranded wire is a little over the top, but then they haven't heard the impact that the gold plating and the simulated diamond chips make!I suppose that they fit someone's idea of jewelry. :)
As far as sound is concerned, they appear to be FiiO FD7's underneath the glitz and glamour. Here is one man's review (no, not mine, there is more than one RhythmDevil in the world...)

You're absolutely right!
I own FiiO FD7's and they sound identical to the FiiO FDX. The advantage of the FDX is that Amazon just dropped the price from $700 down to $492 but the FD7's are still priced at $600. That's the only reason I bought the FDX and that's why I'm recommending them.
FiiO FDX earphones sound fantastic and I think they're well worth the price of $492.

You should really try headfi.org. If you're not familiar with the site it's dedicated to all things headphone related--phones, IEMs, dacs, amps, cables, etc. etc. Has reviews, comments, ads, a marketplace, and thousands and thousands of members versus what seems like a few dozen people here on audiosylum.
The site also has worldwide headphone meets in major cities such as NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco and others in the U.S., London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and others. I've been to six or seven of the yearly meets in Manhattan at major hotels such as the Marriot Marquis in Times Square. Many of the major manufacturers in the world have booths there and you can try out and listen to different items and discuss things with the owners and engineers. I've enjoyed these meets as much as the big stereo shows (remember those?).
My impression is that you are focused on FiiO, which is fine, but it's a big world out there and you perhaps could benefit from greater exposure.

You're right!
When I discovered FiiO, I also discovered IEM earphones with multiple drivers. I had no idea such things existed and I became fascinated. Then, FiiO came out with a flagship IEM earphone with a single dynamic driver and it sounded better to me than all the multiple driver models I'd purchased. I've bought so many FiiO earphones that I've pretty much reached my limit for buying IEM earphones. Therefore, I decided to buy a STAX headphone system and be done with it. Anyway, that's where I've ended my headphone and earphone buying adventure. After spending $5050 on a bundled STAX system, I feel like I've finally reached headphone nirvana. I know there are more expensive headphones, but my new STAX sound so perfect to me that I've decided I'll now concentrate on listening to music instead of headphones and earphones.
Thanks!

Stax makes earbuds apparently...
Cut to razor sounding violins
Yes, STAX makes earbuds. Actually, they're electrostatic IEM earphones. I was thinking of buying the earphone/amplifier bundle, but I'm undecided. I have so many IEM earphones now that I just don't think I need another pair even if they are electrostatic. Then again, I'm tempted.
Therefore, I think I'll go listen to my STAX headphones and enjoy some music while I contemplate the purchase. LoL:-)

There is a guy from Ukraine over on DIY audio selling Shure Electrostatic earphones fir good prices. He wants to sell his set of amp/phones for $650 and have several kits with matching transformers. I bought a Grado GR10 $400
worth of earpieces and I think they are decent but not enough over an Apple phone set. I was never into phones but as I'm going deaf and none of my women could stand any realistic sound level from speakers I may go that route.
I own Koss ESP-950 electrostatic headphones and I actually prefer the sound of my FiiO FDX and FiiO FD7 earphones more than Koss electrostatics. That's why I was curious to find out whether or not anyone else owns these specific FiiO earphones and what they think of their sound quality.
Thanks for your response, though.
Happy Listening!
