I'm looking for a recommendation for a headphone amp for use with AKG K501 headphones. Thank-you.
Follow Ups:
the Little Dot MK III Vacuum Tube headphone amp will be your best bet as those headphones are kind of mid fi and not worth investing alot of money in
if you are going to spend any real money look for a Stax basic can and amp system on ebay
the difference is night and day
STAX Condenser Type Ear Speaker System STAX SRS-3100
on ebay right now -I would jump on that deal
I have both a Schiit Asgard 3 and a Lyr 3 and both work well with my Grado SR125e and Hifiman Sundara headphones. Both amps have plenty of power and sound excellent with either headphone. You can get a new Asgard 3 for $250 (without DAC) and a Lyr 3 for $600, but both are available on the used market. Schiit also has new units, the Magni+, available starting at $109.
...with Sennheiser HD-600 headphones. In fact, it was a headphone-only system due to space constraints.
Thought it was a great headphone amp, very clean and accurate. Just a black box with a knob on it, nothing fancy.
I don't know the specs for your AKG cans, how the DB would mate up with them.
Only sold the DB-9 when I went over to electrostats.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

The Bottlehead Crack is a single-ended triode, output transformer-less amp for high impedance headphones. It is superb.
It is a kit, requiring very easy soldering. The "Speedball" constant-current power supply upgrade does require precision soldering. There is excellent support available from Bottlehead and its very active forums.

"Put on your high heeled sneakers. Baby, we''re goin'' out tonight.
Thank-you for the recommendation. I looked at the site and sent an e-mail with some questions. It looks great.
