Be sure when using balanced headphones that they match what your amp can output. Sometimes you need a separate XLR for left, and another for the right....sometimes they're combined.

My headphone amplifier has both options(combined and separate). It looks like at the very least the headphones would need to have a detachable cord. The most common ones I see in that category are the Sennheisers, but I'm not really looking to go there. Really enjoying the Beyerdynamic DT770s, but it looks like it takes heavy modification to make those ones XLR.
Has anyone used the DT770 and then found something better in the detachable cord/ XLR cord available cord category?
Mine are top end Cardas .....Works well. They connect to the Sennheiser phones with detachable cables. The original wires swapped for the Cardas is a definite step down.
