nice overall and amazing for the $76 they cost....Audio Technica ATH-AD700. Certainly not as transparent as the AKG K701's I had, but not bad and talk about ambience and soundstage, good bass, easy to drive and very satisfying so far. Used with an old Allied EL-84 based integrated amp. Also, like them as much as or better than the Sennheiser HD 600's I once had. The AKG's and Senn's had their strong points also but price considered, the AT's are amazing! Glad that we have a headphone forum here at AA.

Most HP's tend to concentrate the sound around each ear, sort of like a dual mono kind of thing, without images spread across space. So, I guess I meant more precisely that the images appear to be more distributed into the apparent space in front of or behind the listener. That's the best I can do. I didn't hear the same effect nearly as much on the Sennheiser 600 and Akg 701's. Maybe it's that I've gotten old and my mind is starting to play tricks on me!
