the entry level electrostat rig is in the $600-$800 range and the top of the Lambda range is $1900. Should I go with the entry level to see if stats are right for me or sell all my cans and amp and jump in at the top of the Lambda line? Omegas are out of my price range right now.

It's two grand for a SR-507 and a 323S amp. That's what I have...very happy with it.
I would think you could sell it pretty fast if you don't like it without much loss.

It would cost you for a decent rig MORE THAN THAT. tHE407 RIG IS OVER 1200 WITH THE AMP AND i SUGGEST YOU LISTEN BEFORE YOU BUY. i HEARD THE 02 AND THOUGHT MY T1 WAS BETTER. Bass IS LACKING IN sTAX PHONES IMO. i HAVE NOT HEARD THE 507 BUT OTHERS HERE OWN IT.
yes, need bass, like my new Denon AHD2000's just for that reason. They really are FUN headphones and can't be beat for street price of $250. I have half dozen great cans but these are the only ones getting the love in my system right now.
The stax thing was a lark. I can get the entry level lambda system at a really good price and could probably swing the top tier lambda if I could find a dealer close by. The importer doesn't return emails or phone calls so the brand is not actively seeking my business.
Elusive Disc sells stax. I have the D7000 and the Beyer T1. I owned the HD800,LCD2,HE6 and heard the HE500 for three weeks in my home. I sold them all and re-purchased the T1 which is my favorite headphone especially with my Decware CSP-2. I use the D7000 sometimes at night but the T1 is what get it all right IMO. I did not care for the Stax )2 and though the Senn HE90 was better.
They happen around the country a lot of times during the year. I love electrostats, but don't love the entry-level 507's etc.
You should hear them with your own music at a meet before spending (wasting?) your money on something that might or might not float your boat. I think that's called gambling, right?

Given that none of your cans (looking at your profile) are bass heavy, I would advise entry level Stax to see if this is the signature that you like. You won't lose very much if you need to resell.
