...I have no basis for comparison whatsoever. I have not heard another pair of headphones in 20 years.
This I do know, the combination of the amp & phones exceeded my expectations of what I was going to hear.
The phones are so comfy its like they aren't even there. The sound is very detailed without being at all bright. The bass is deep when it should be and very articulate. Vocals sound very natural. Percussion and horns have great edge and are palpable.
Sorry to speak in such sweeping generalizations, but as I said, I have no basis for comparison. I do know this ...I don't think I'll be upgrading. This is as good as I need headphones to be.
I'm a fan !

Same here but I do have a few benchmarks with which to compare them. I thought my AKG K 701's were better but more expensive phones. Also, more anaytical, transparent, and detail oriented. Like listening through a microscope. Not as comfy, easy to drive, nor, loveable. I had Sennheiser HD 600's a while back. I can say I definitely like the AT's a lot better but, again, in some of basic audiophile attributes, they are better than the AT's. I have Grado 125's and the AT's are superior in every way. On the whole I am pleasantly surprised by the quality and sound of the At's. At the price, IMO, they are great deal! Comfy, easy to listen to and love. I also love the ambience and, if you will, soundstage, as in expansive listening space they provide.
Last year, when I first started thinking about getting a pair of phones, the AKG 701 was the hot ticket. But, even a used pair was out of my price range considering I was being advised that to make them sound good I should spend $500 or so on an amp (I can't remember what was recommended).
For all I know that may have been good advice or bad. Either way, I'm glad I waited.
