These are simply amazing cans and have exceeded all of my expectations as an upgrade. Never have I heard certain types of music sound so alive, tactile, and realistic via headphones. They are beautiful looking headphones, and the airy feel of these headphones is extremely nice, too. Completely recabled with Cardas, the midrange seems most liquid and the soundstage pleasingly "out of head". No regrets with this purchase...

Well spoken! They are very revealing, comfortable, and elegant. I have SR60's, 225's, 325's, RS1i's, PS500's and PS1000's and like them all, but
the RS1i's are what I usually reach for when I have to be quiet at night.

  .., (at least the better ones) can provide dynamic and tactile sensations that circumaural headphones have trouble matching. It has something to do with the way the sound directly massages the external portions of the ears, but also, when the drivers are situated directly across from the openings of the ears a la Grado (and when the drivers are backed up by long, tunnel-like earcups) the result is this intensified feeling of directness and intimate communication. These wooden cans are certainly unique in the headphone world and I'm sure you know that some consider the RS1s to be Grados best headphones - at least for certain types of music.

    Need to hear them. I have 325is woodied with G-Cushions so I vote for comfort and soundstage.

      This is not mentioned on the Grado website, but one of the changes Grado made for the RS1is are longer earcups. Grado mentions that RS1i earcups are made from a different species of wood, but for some reason they do not mention that they are also about 1/4" longer. I've owned both models and (to my ears) the RS1is not only sound more dynamic, but they also "soundstage" better than RS1s do. The sonic differences between the two models are not huge but they are significant. Also, I'm one of the guys who do not find the standard L cushions to be uncomfortable - so long as headband tension is adjusted correctly.
