While awaiting refurbishment of my McIntosh 240 tube amp, I've been driving the Revel's with a spare Crown XLS Class D amp. It works well. Quiet, plenty of power, but sort of "etched." Certainly ok as an interim amp. However, I could not resist trying the Revel's with another 6L6-based tube amp, so I've connected my Ideal Innovations 60 amp, which also uses 6L6 tubes.
Quite a difference. Luminous, detailed, but not necessarily analytical. Really wonderful.
Can't wait to try the McIntosh, though I'm thrilled with the Ideal Innovations amp. I may just build another system around it.
Follow Ups:
Pair the Revels with decent subs. Feed the 75Hz and up signals to the tubes/Revels and you will have it all. The only weakness with tubes is the rock solid control of the bass. Once you do this set up once you will not go back.
Thanks. Using Hsu 15 inch sub.
