Is an enjoyable album. Its dvd (not A). No idea the exact resolution (this bugs me about many DVD/DVD-a releases). There is no 5.1 surround. The songs date from the 70's to the 90's. So there are variations in sound quality. Have to hand it to Neil. He keeps pushing for better sounding formats than straight rbcd. This also has a cd with it in HDCD. He tells you to listen to the dvd if posssible for best sound. You also get a mini poster in the double disc package. They also sell just the cd by itself so you have to be careful to get the "deluxe" package. Glad I bought it. It does sound better than cd.
thanks

Follow Ups:
Sorry, this applies to the 'Harvest' DVD-A
Group 1 is 5.1-96/24 and group 2 is 2-channel-192/24.
There may also be Dolby & DTS groups?

I believe it is 24/96 like the rest of his hi-rez DVDs. I have it (my main system is apart at the moment). I have Sugar Mountain too but that with a bunch of other hi-rez stuff I have not gotten to. His archives are on Blu-Ray too.
If, as you say
Its dvd (not A)
why are we discussing it here?

Being a rookie, perhaps I wrongly considered Hirez 2 channel DVD to be almost exact twin to DVD-A. Sorry if thats not the case. Apparently many of the companies making recordings are also confused. On the "saviour" of the format (DualDisc) they use both hi-rez DVD 2ch & DVD-A interchangeably.
Even the DVD-A registry lists Blu-ray, Hdad, and MVI. I have a Classic records Hdad and pretty sure its not DVD-A. It came out before DVD-A existed. It is basically what the Neil Young album is - high rez 2ch DVD. Doubt Blu-ray is true DVD-A since it won't play in most DVD-A machines. Its all very confusing.

ah, Ok there's a 2-ch hirez on it. thanks

Ben,
Sorry but you are wrong. All DVD-A discs are not 5.1; there are many that are 2 channel only (including side A of HDAD discs) and Neil has a few of them, but this ain't one of them.
NY's Greatest hits is NOT a DVD-Audio disc, it is a normal DVD-Video disc. The 2 channel audio on this disc is 24/96k (DVD-V's highest resolution) and presented in linear PCM (i.e unprotected, as opposed to MLP from DVD-Audio). It is truly hirez and sounds great.
My Yamaha DVD S1800 will tell the resolution on DVD-a and tell you its MLP. It will tell bit rate on DVD discs. It does this on tv. Don't think it does it on machine display.
There are other Neil Young discs in the store. Probably 3 other titles with deluxe cd/dvd discs (not DualDisc). Greatest Hits includes:
Cinnamon Girl, After The Gold Rush, Southern Man, The Needle And The Damage Done, Old Man, Heart Of Gold, Hey Hey My My(Into The Black), Rockin In The Free World, and other songs. Such classics.
So nice to actually be able to walk into a store and buy Hi-rez. This was in Hastings the movie rental, recorded music, book store.
thanks
