To try & answer your points where I can.
MVI - Music Video Interactive.
It's a DVD, usually DVD-V, with a front end for ROM drives featuring (drum roll) pre ripped MP3 and "downloadable" extras (if ever added).
24/96 DVD-A or DVD-V there is no difference at all in theory.
However, not all DVD-V players are capable of outputting a 24/96 stream, as LPCM in DVD-V is only mandatory at 16/48 and all other rates are optionally supported. You may get on-the-fly truncation to 16 bits, or SRC to 48KHz, or both - and you may well not have any options to change this. I have a player that only outputs at 16 bits, and it truncates in an ugly manner too.
Good enough for movies with DTS/DD, but for audio - awful.
support for (up to) 24/192 is mandatory in all DVD-A players.
DualDisc DVD side might not be DVD-A, but DVD-V. All Sony/Universal titles are DVD-V discs. Stereo is often 16/48, and surround where present will usually be Dobly as the other big issue with DualDisc is that the DVD side is limited to single layer. It is also more expensive to replicate compared to CD/DVD9 double packs.

That's not accurate. In the case of Universal DualDiscs, all or nearly all had DVD-Audio content. See link below.
Sony released one DualDisc with DVD-Audio content - 8701 from Usher.
Thank you - appreciate the clarification.
Wow, thanks Ben & Neil for the clarification. This is even more complicated than originally thought. Weird that theres no "standard" for the dvd side of a DualDisc. Some DVD-v, some DVD-a.
Think the Yamaha will allow DVD-v to be 24/96 (menu allows choice of that or 16/48). It also gives out a mbps readout. Guess I could play a 24/96 song both ways to see if it varies.
Thanks for the offer Ben. May take you up on it at a later date. Wish I had that many Hi-rez discs. Have to work on that. Not easy since I like rock a lot.
thanks

I like rock too.I started in 2000.if you like nine inch nails they made 2 different dvd audio dual disc titles.1 has some videos on it.I would not recommend playing the cd side.they dont work in my players.dvd side works good though.neils right I would have to play each one to see how it was made.Im not positive but I think the dvda dualdisc were analog out and if it had videos they were digital.a few dualdisc have all videos for all the songs.brimstone butterfly normality killed the cat was one made in 5.1 with all the videos.destinys child did some that way too.

Have NIN DOWNWARD SPIRAL as SACD (its Mch & stereo). Recently saw it as DVD-?. Wonder how they managed to get both formats? Thats out of the ordinary to say the least. NIN is a little harder rock than I normally listen to. It won't be some thing i play every week. Just picked up AC/DC BACK IN BLACK DualDisc. Well recorded rock album.
thanks
