I have been checking the OPPO website periodically to see if they are going to include DVD-A on their new Blu-Ray/universal player.
They now show that DVD-A will be included.I signed up for notification of the release of this player.
Now,we still have to wait.

My Oppo BP 83 arrived about 3 weeks ago. I originally signed up to be a Beta tester but was not selected.
After the bugs were worked out they started selling them to people like me that were on the waiting list.
It plays DVD-A great and everything else I have tried. Regular DVD's look great on it. Of course Blu Ray is awesome!
I wil try to order one very soon.

The BDP-83 I received played DVD-A out of the box although it was a little cranky about it and sometimes required rebooting to play the next disc after a DVD-A, regardless of what it was. Two firmware updates later, it seems to be playing all formats just fine.

The website still says coming soon. Are you beta testing?

Shipments have been made to many in the so-called "beta" group and Oppo has assured me that my sample is in every way equivalent to the regular release. Perhaps you should email them with your concerns as websites are not always kept up to the moment.

How is the redbook playback on the Oppo? I have been waiting on a Denon 3910 but now think that the Oppo will be the way to go depending on the redbook performance. As I am sure there will be plenty of mods in the near future.I don't watch tv or movies so it will be stricktly for 2 channel use.
And connected to what?

I will be using Analog for SACD and DVD-A. Then for Redbook I will be going thru my Dacmagic. But I am also wondering how it sounds Analog thru the built in dac. Thank you for your help. I have heard great things about the Oppo 83.

It's OK but not a world-beater via analog. Better than the 980.

Compared to my Denon 5900 the Oppo is very close in SACD and DVD-A .
However, the Denon plays Cd's better.
The Denon 5900 plyed Audio much better than my old 3910 until it was modified by APL.
The 3910 is long gone from my system.
