When I play this disc on Marantz Universal DV9500, I get Rhino screen then next screen that says Surround Sound Playlist or something to that effect and the bonus video stuff is under that. When I play in regular DVD player it defaults to 2ch sound and outputs 48Khz to dac. OK. Where is toggle or select for different 5.1 tracks or somehow is it making the universal default to DVD-A/MLP tracks and decoding? The disc says there are 3 audio programs.

The disc is not doing this - your player is. The player is set so that when a DVD-Audio disc is inserted, the DVD-Audio content has priority over DVD-Video content. You can change this in the player setup menus so that the player will ignore DVD-Audio content and only play DVD-Video content.

If you have an external DAC connected to your DVD-Video player, this is normal behavior. DVD-Video allows for Dolby Digital content to be downmixed and converted to 48k LPCM.

What are you trying to accomplish? DVD-Audio content on this disc is 5.1 only. There is no discrete 2ch program on the disc.
just thought you should be able to access a menu for the 3 audio programs but there isn't one I guess. the marantz defaults to DVD-A oddly enough. U have to access the setup menu for the player to change it. I guess not oddly enuff that it defaults to DVD-A for accessing the better audio program. It's frustrating that some DVD-whatevers have wonderfully laid out menu's for all this stuff and others have nothing.

This is one of the (many) reasons why the DVD-Audio format flopped.
on Toshiba 6940. All I could get was stereo 96 direct. Do you have rca cables going out the six analog outs? If you are using optical out, that is the problem.
no, it's analog out from marantz. just frustrated there is no easy access to the 3 audio programs and no way really to switch between them. Didn't know that Edgar Winter disc ever came out in DVD-A. Cool! The original cd release sounded like crap. I guess it was eventually remastered. Long version of Frankenstein in 5.1 must be awesome!

As far as I know it never came out on DVD-Audio.
Just my experiences and opinions, yours may be different,
Teresa
Perhaps duilawyer's hints at it being "out there" and to "use Google" implies the DVD-A is not an official release as such?
somewhat like the excellent DSotM DVD-A
DVD-A registry
I think it is only stereo.
One of those albums from college that maybe I don't need to listen to anymore. Same with Bachman Turner Overdrive....
