I guess there are still some things that can be discussed here. I have not opened the new Mellencamp album yet. Picked it up at Best Buy on sale for $9.99 and it apparently includes a CD and a DVD of the album with 24/96 audio. May get to it later or tomorrow.
Perhaps when there are more Blu-Ray high quality PCM audio things out there, it would be best to keep it separate to hold down fights between the children. I'll buy hi-rez audio and I don't care what format it is.
Follow Ups:
I guess I will keep the Marantz dv8400. Kind of funny that this Mellencamp comes with 24/96 because it is the first recording to utilize new technology created by T-Bone Burnettte which is supose to make mp3 sound better than current cd's.
The T Bone Burnett CODE technique is another marketing term and not actually a new format as they claim. Remember DAD and HDAD...these are also not formats but use the existing formats.
The Mellencamp disc (which I purchased as well) is merely a DVD-Video disc with a DVD-ROM sector for the pre-ripped good quality lo-res files. The 96 kHz/24-bit stereo files are standard PCM...which people have been including on DVDs for almost 10 years.
