And yes, I won't be paying $400, but that does seem like a really solid player, if just for the transport

FYI, the transport used in all of the concurrent Pioneers were the same, regardless of price. The entry level machine had the exact same transport as the DV-09. The only difference was that the DV-09 had an extra motorized door that sealed off the opening to the drawer. And I think the drawer may have been painted with Nextel, a suede-like paint.

  How about Sony Transports, are they mostly the same? I just bought an SACD player Sony DVP- NS90V, thanks for your response in advance.

    We've always used Pioneer transports, so I know a lot about those. I know a little bit about the older Sony DVD transports, but not much. If it has a plastic tray, you can pretty much bet that it's nothing special.
