I wasn't asking about a "real" home theater surround system, I was asking if you had compared the Sonos system with the Sony HT A9, a very similar system that's ready to go when you turn on the TV and is controlled by the TV remote. The speakers get their signal from a small black box that's connected to eARC from the TV. The Sony setup replaced a processor, several amps, 4 KEF LS50s, and a lot of wiring. I'm guessing you haven't.

Nope. I'm not at all familiar with the Sony HT A9.I once had a HT system comprised of a pretty decent AV Receiver/Processor that was integrated WITH my 2-channel audio setup. The 2-ch preamp had a Home Theater bypass input so I was able to use my main 2-ch amp for the front L&R speakers but the Center, Sub, and Rear Surrounds were driven by the AV Receiver/Processor. Lots of interconnect and speaker cabling! And a bit complex for my wife to use.
We're very happy with the Sonos system which I call the "Easy Button" system for home theater ;-)

I think my Sony HT A9 setup is similar to your Sonos setup, and we came from similar experience with surround, in my case a Bryston SP3 processor through the Ayre bypass, a rack of NAD surround amps, and lot of cables. Now it's just click the TV remote and surround happens. The little black box even takes HDMI from the Nucleus.
