Has anyone gotten better sound with an upgraded power supply? If so, what's different? Mine sounds pretty darn good already once I went through the settings and made some adjustments.
If you have found that a better ps makes the thing sound better than the usb c phone charger thing that came with the Wiim, which one are you using? Links would be helpful thanks.
I'm using an external dac if that matters.
Follow Ups:
I have been using a ifi power X, available on Amazon. A very subtle improvement.
Thanks, looks like a solid upgrade.
I use an Allo Shanti 5V power supply for the Wiim Pro Plus (I had the LPS available after use with other gear) via USB C adapter, and it provided a cleaner sound, via optical fed Audiophonics reclocker and Topping D50 III DAC. (I was not impressed with the Wiim's internal DAC.) It could be overkill here, I think something like a ZeroZone 5V LPS (eBay from China) would work as well.

I haven't tried the internal dac. Mine is going to a Directstream dac so I don't think it's worth it to even try. I did try using a random (cheap) optical cable that I had sitting around, it was no comparison to a good coax. I was surprised that the optical sounded as bad as it did. I may look for a glass cable at some point, but the little plastic box sounds like good vinyl right now, which is all I want from digital.
Thanks Todd for providing some names of power supplies I can look at.
have experienced improvements replacing crappy switchers with every streamer I've used.
Cheap wall warts introduce both local and AC generated EMI noise that adds a false brightness to the signal and blurs musical detail.
A decent linear or battery supply isn't expensive. Given the caliber of the rest of your gear, I recommend you give it a try.
Thanks. All I know is that it's a 5 volt phone converter/adapter and usb c plug into the Wiim. I'll find something that will work.
Let us know if you truly hear an improvement.
Main system uses an HDPlex linear driving an ultraRendu.I also have an RPi4 and RPi3B. The 4 serves as backup while the 3B feeds the garage system. I have both an inexpensive linear and a low noise phone charger which I find superior to five buck wall warts.

Is there a maximum for the amps or watts I should be looking at? I've seen power supplies with
1 amp up to 40.so far.
Specs say 5 volt 1.5A or higher. Is bigger better?

Not necessarily with an endpoint. The ultraRendu requires only 1A. I declock both RPi units where 1A works fine. The designer of the uR discovered that using starquad DC cord can help, too. And it really isn't that expensive. I began with a DIY setup and later purchased premade cables from Ghent Audio.
It reduces inductance and helps deliver what power is there. Not noticeable on most compressed content but can improve low level dynamics on material with wide range.
Okay. I appreciate the info.
