I didn't quite understand your post. You say "Incoming everSOLO DMP-A8" which leads me to believe you might be getting one..... or maybe you simply meant it's about to hit the market.I'm not sure what the feature differences are between the DMP-A6 and DMP-A8 but the major technical difference appears to be the DAC chip set. DMP-A6 uses ESS Sabre while the DMP-A8 uses AKM.
I've owned various ESS Sabre and AKM based DACs over the years and some were excellent and others not so much - regardless of what DAC chip they used. My current SMSL DAC is dual AKM based while my long term old favorite PS Audio DAC use ESS Sabre.
The everSOLO DMP-A8 has the catchy "R2R" terminology in their marketing material but in this case it's just talking about the Volume control. It's basically what any other manufacturer would call a fixed resistor stepped attenuator. My last preamp and my current one uses a relay switched stepped attenuator volume control. You hear the relays clicking as different fixed resistor values are switched in and out.
In any case I am very impressed with the high quality digital products that are available to us today if you're willing to step out of your comfort zone of paying for pricey audiophile approved and branded electronics.
P.S. I know that the everSOLO products being discussed combine the streamer/DAC/Preamp while I've been talking mostly about DACs. If you find an outstanding combo unit that you're happy with who can argue with that? My own personal choice (for now anyway) is to use a separate streamer with separate DAC and separate outboard preamp. I have some flexibility that way in listening to and tinkering with each one independently.
Enjoy!

Hi Abe,
Do forgive the delay in my response, as I got caught up watching movies with the wife | tend to cut devices off while doing so, and only saw your post moments ago upon cutting my iPhone back on.
I was referring to the A8 coming onto the market, yet only wished it was so at least 2 years ago, as I'd have been one of the first ones in line to buy one, especially based upon what I hear from their entry level offering of which I find delightful. And while I can admit to having followed your adventures with different dacs over the last 2-10 years, and having owed your beloved PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC circa 2016, or thereabouts?, into like you a Mac Mini tandem at the time and enjoying it for what it was, and having felt I had improved upon things by moving onto an Aurender X100L dedicated music server in tandem with both the Denafrips Ares ll, followed by their Pontus ll two years ago, yet as the latter would prove to be somewhat overly sensitive to power surges on our power line and jump into standby mode within 3-5 minutes of every track and as we reside in an apartment unit, trying to have a dedicated circuit for the living room area isn't a practical option..., of which lead to my exploring the so-called new generation of all-in-one type of devices.
And while I don't stream music, as I much prefer my collection being placed onto said DMP-A6 via a 4TB NVMe M.2 SSD card, and calling it a day, I must say after having two brands of dacs with digital displays burn out on me eventually shown a lightly missed numbers | letters with said displays which I found to couldn't be helped by simply dimming it, it's nice to have said A6 | DAC-Z8 and finally the upcoming release of the A8 offer a selling which cuts the display off all together, even if its display looks to be of higher quality than what was used on several Pro-Ject dacs and a Gustard I've owned.
So as we've both noted technology and one's options of more current designs, have in my mind raised the bar substantially, and especially at said $800-$2000 price points, by in highlight I'd say that while different types of DAC chips have been used for years now, should I assume some companies of late have gone back, and taken the needed time to understand more on how to better implement them?, as said EverSolo items to my ears | sense just offer a type of signature of which feels | sounds right, to where dacs of just 4 years ago, while offering a fake sense of analogue bloom | dynamically challenged type of presentation | added refinement and warmth, just weren't as accurate | weighty sounding or offered this type of detail.
Whatever is happening on these foreign shores?, I'm all in.

Thanks for the clarification. There's so much choice now w/o needing to spend crazy money to get outstanding sound.I still like my $1299 MSRP 2016 era PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC for its full-bodied robust sound which did well especially in my smaller office setup. I now have it in my main setup side-by-side with the SMSL D400EX DAC and can easily switch back and forth with a simple button-press on my preamp.
The SMSL has a more "balanced" presentation that I like in the larger basement setup while the PS Audio was better in my smaller system.
I think the choice of DAC (or any component for that matter) has to match-up with your sonic preference for the particular system you have in use. The PS Audio will add heft and weight to a thinner sounding system and might otherwise be too much in other systems.
BUT.... if I HAD TO lean one way or the other I will choose a full-bodied robust and weighty sound over a lean and thin sound any day.

You're more than welcome.I've always been caught up in the whole Linn | Naim concepts of P.R.A.T. as well as an emphasis on synergy since 1984, and said teachings or mindset has allowed me to get a better feel for which components should be bested placed in tandem with others around it ( them ) as well.
Yet I'm totally with you in your preference for a more full-bodied robust | weightier presentation as opposed to lean, thin and flat, not alone overly warm or slow..., or which they latter I tend to see as something of very little interest system wise, as I grew up during the late 80s until about 2010 on a study diet of speakers from ProAc ( of which I owned 5 pairs during this period, having ended it with a pair of Response One SC's ) where I became all to aware of their nimbleness | attack of notes as compared to what I preceded as much much slower mini-monitor types..., weird thing is in retrospect it seems I've never strayed much from the Brit-Fi sound when it comes to my share of speakers | integrated amps | turntables, and in truth never saw my own preferences towards many makes other than said Brit-Fi as challenging the norm, as expected or in favor of domestic wares, with the exception of brands like Conrad-Johnson | Muse Electronics | Audible Illusion | First Sound | Wadia | Cary Audio | Quicksilver Audio | Rogue Audio, of which I'm talking models made between 1987-2001 that is..., I even have an even greater respect for the Dynaco Stereo 70 | VTL Minimalist preamp tandem of which got me into tube amplification circa late 1989, talk about memories of days ( moments ) gone by, excuse me as I wipe away a single tear caused by said nostalgia.
