Whether you like his conducting or not, you've got to admit this guy's a rarity!

But you're right: certainly a rarity!
with Concertgebouworkest ( replacing Gatti ) and with a CSO. The former was a complete disaster and the latter was ok. I was happy he was not selected to lead the CSO.
Karajan was also a jet pilot, not commercial though.

Actually, I just checked Apple Music and I've heard more from Harding than I'd remembered before (including recordings with babe violinists, such as JJ and Nicola). And I just listened to a couple more tracks, such as Roschmann singing "Mi tradi" (from Mozart's Don Giovanni) - the orchestral work there (with the Swedish RSO) is really quite good. OTOH, he's got all these recordings with HIP groups (like Concerto Koln), HIP wannabe groups (like the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie), or modern groups where he strangulates the string vibrato in the current academically approved HIP manner (like the Swedish RSO playing Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie). Of course, he's not the only one to do this, but I prefer some other conductors of that ilk (e.g., V. Jurowski, P. Jarvi) to Harding - at least based on what I've heard so far. I don't recall a single recording from Harding which I thought was in the highest echelon of performances, although on the whole (and aside from all the HIP stuff) his performances haven't seemed "bad" really.
