When are audiophiles going to learn the power supply is the amplifier. The better the power supply the better the amp. The amplifier circuit is just a way to open and close the power supply to simulate an amplified input signal. A great power supply and decent amp circuit will always beat an OK power supply and super amp circuit. The problem is that the power supply costs tons of money and you can skimp smartly there without affecting specs or sonics when the amp is loafing. Too bad most speakers tax the amp and the better the power supply the better the speaker is controlled.
from Frank Alstine. When I was a teenager, I boosted the power supply of an Audire power amp by a factor of four with an external box like you found with the Double Dyna 400. Dynamics and transparency both benefited.
Today, each VTL amp has a 250 joule power supply (your stereo amp of identical power has 380) supplied by a 20A dedicated line through nine gauge shielded cords. The preamp has a larger power supply at 38 joules than many 100 watt amplifiers!
Not interested in multi-rail designs especially switchers. ;)
That's what I think, too. The power supply capacity is effectively doubled when only one channel is used.
is improved channel separation which translates to a wider soundstage.
