I thought about posting there but my tube question has nothing 'tech' about it and it is in the context of a preamp and sound quality. This is an amp/preamp forum isn't it?

He's talking about Tubes ward, Abe, not the Tubes/DIY ward. Tube/DIY is mostly tech talk. Plain old Tubes ward has plenty of what's best discussion.
I was always kind of fond of the RCA clear top 12AU. Although the only 12AU still in my system is an RFT.
I must have missed the nuance and just looked at Tubes/DIY and turned back.
The PSVANE 12AU7 is sounding pretty good but I'm waiting for another Gold Lion to arrive. I haven't played with NOS types in a long time having gone the current production route. The Rogue is my alternative amp anyway that I place into the system 'now and then'.
The tube store has RFT 12AU7s for about the same price as current production tubes. I don't know the vintage they have though, I got mine elsewhere. Not overly warm, or bright/brittle sounding. Good bass, good detail, DEEP soundstage.
Just a thought.
