Hi Abe, no more Class D amps for me. They are creeping up in price and are right up there with the expensive Class AB amps. These are good but I will not try anymore and just stay with what I have and happy with.
I was after my last power amp since I'm getting close to retirement but since this build with the Nilai I have decided to stay with what I have now and be happy with what I have. The BIG surprise out of this latest venture was the MBL 6010D "Clone" preamp that I bought for fun. This has turned out to one very nice sounding preamp in stock mode and way better after I upgraded the Power Supply caps all the way to the IC's supply caps. After that, I went and changed out the IC's for better ones and now this preamp is very very good sounding and very quiet. I have two more upgrades to do (VC and output stage/buffer IC's) on it and it should make this preamp even better sounding.
I still have to finish two speaker builds before I'm totally done and hopefully they turn our really nice. One is a (4) 6.5" woofer two way with Silver Flute 6.5 woofers and BG Neo 3's with the enclosed cap on the back of them. The other is the 2 way Horn speaker project with the Radian 475BP drivers and QSC CD horns with MCM 55-2963 15" drivers that are suppose to be close to JBL's drivers. I will be using a Zilch Z19 Xover for those.
Follow Ups:
I was hoping you wouldn't let this less than stellar Class D experience discourage you. As with other designs not all Class D amps are equal. I have never had a good sounding Hypex based Class D amp (including nCore) even though they were the hot topic a few years back overshadowing ICEpower. My ICEpower amps from Wyred4Sound and PS Audio were noticeably better sounding to my ears and today I am enjoying my Purifi based Class D amp. When asked why he chose ICEpower for his Class D amps Paul McGowan of PS Audio said they sound better to him and in my experience I would have to agree. Purifi wasn't available when he made that observation.

now in my system. If I were to try another Class D amp, I will have to have some extra reserves to buy a nice one BUT would have to listen to them in person or allowed to audition them in my system before I buy ala Orchard Audio Starkrimson amps. Actually, I should have registered for the tour of this amp to audition now that I look back. Been hearing a lot of great things about this amp.
The tour is still ongoing if you would like to sign up.
How do you like them apples?

you might want to fix the bad link in your profile to the website.
But I'm not buying anymore gear for awhile if at all. I'm trying to get rid of some gear first, then we will see.
I haven't tried a class D amp I liked until my most recent, the Atma-Sphere Ganfet monoblocs. Not tube like, but heading in that direction. Certainly not the older bleached out sound of typical class D. They have worked very well with every speaker I've tried them with, including LS3/5a's, JA Pulsars, Klipsch RP600m's.
is that Ralph does not rely as much on corrective feedback in his design - merely 35 db. I've seen some suggest that Bruno's designs (Hypex, Mola Mola, Purifi) have about 100 db of open loop gain which means they need 75-80 db of feedback to make them operable.
80 db of feedback is a ratio of 100,000,000:1 to beat the devices into submission.
Class D keeps evolving and improving. I'd like to try a GaN FET amp someday, maybe in a couple years. I'm not an early adopter as I typically wait for things to shake out. If we see more GaN FET amps hitting the market I'll know it's not just the latest fad. They seem to be catching on.
