"You keep referring to your friend's impression and opinions, but what matter most if yours."Well, I am just presenting it as a point of reference. My friend has lived with all of my gear before, and he's also tried the cartridge-in-question vs. other flagship models. He has very similar musical sensibilities as I, and along the way he and I have shared the same opinions. (This is not to say that I have not been thinking for myself or questioning things -- in fact, I trust my own ears. He has often helped me narrow the field, and when he is passionate about something, it is often worth my time to check it out.)
In analog, though, there are VERY limited opportunities for extended home audition. I'd imagine there are even fewer opportunities to try cartridges at home....much less rare cartridges. At some point, most people must make a bit of a leap.
I *have* heard the cartridge in question, but I have not heard it in my own home for 3-6 months.
So...in the photo you posted, is that your cartridge? If so, can you reconcile what you wrote above (desiring a non-retip-able cartridge) with purchasing one that isn't re-tip-able/rebuild-able?
Thank you!
