.....truly dead, no. Dead for classical music lovers, certainly not (SACD lives in this case).SACD has about 4200 titles in release, and about 70-85 new titles being released each month...most of these are classical.
DVD-A is more "dead", but even so there is an occassional blockbuster release, almost all pop/rock. Most recently, the Beattles "LOVE" soundtrack in 96/24 DVD-A.
My point is only that the superior sounding technology is here, and if you are having trouble enjoying CD but want the convenience of digital you are missing the boat by not having a player capable of a high-level of high-rez reproduction.
