I am not a professional electrician by trade, just a home owner who is handy around the house.
I would suggest purchasing a " how to " book aimed at the layman / home owner, just from reading one of these informative guides I have wired my hot tub, installed a new electric water heater, run a new circuit for a ceiling fan, and run four dedicated 20 amp lines to my stereo room.
Just take it slow and proceed with caution, it helps to purchase your supplies from a local shop rather than one of the nationwide big box chains, that way you can get good advice from folks who know what they are talking about.
BTW if you tackle this project yourself you can do a few things that most hired electricians would not, such as polishing all romex leads with Semichrome metal polish ( manufactured in Germany ) and further treating with Caig Progold treatment.
