I have one of the older ones and two of the new ones that I bought at the same time last month.I have not done a formal A/B of them, but the older one is theorized by some here on AA to have a more relaxed presentation. I have not noticed that difference when I switched my preamp from the regular one to an N1.
I have all of my two channel gear on the new N1's right now and they are still doing some breaking in as I did a bit of switching around with Maher Power Enhancers installations on my circuit.I would describe their impact on my system to be quite positive. They seem to engender a neutral and cleaner presentation as compared to my previously used Pass and Seymour spec grade outlets I was using which were "darker" with less detail retrieval and less depth.
These changes I describe are noticeable, but I do not wish to overstate that such a tweak transformed a previously unlistenable system into nirvannah-it was all quite good before. The new outlets enhanced the system in my opinion and I like them a lot.
I should note that I have Furutech connectors on all of my power cords and I have a dedicated line.
As always-this stuff is systemic to the unique context and system.
You can see my system in my profile. You might inquire with Lee at CryoPArts if he has done any A/B of the two Furutechs or Chris Ven Haus.
Alan Krafton is an expert also and will provide an unbiased opinion.
There is also an AA member named Robert (Radio Wonder I think) who is quite knowledgeable and and may have both of them.Good luck.
Oh, one thing I can say for sure-they take forever to break in. 400+ hours easily in my experience. Not a lot of fun.
