Anytime the electrical system does not have a separate earth ground, there will be the potential for much greater noise on the line. Secondly, you cannot protect the system, nor effectively filter the AC with common products made for this purpose unless the system has a separate ground path. Using "audiophile" products is not the point, it's the proper implementation of a ground that is.
