While chasing a post by tonemanic for a Low Freq. Pulse Generator one morning I ended up on the Acoustic Revive web site ( http://www.acoustic-revive.com/english/cs2/cs2_01.html )
Among the interesting Pdts they offered was a CS2 outlet stabilizer ( see link ) ... I contacted the importer and was given a List price of $143 ea. OUCH !!!
Being very Republican with my money ... I felt I could probably get 75% of what the CS2's did by DIYing my own ... so off to Home Depot for some (4) male plug ends and some expandable insulating foam ... I remover the hardware from one plug and filled it with the foam and plugged it into the wall ... OH NO it started smoking like a chimney. Probably some water or other chemical in the foam that was allow some current transfer.
Yanked the plug, scratched my head and decided to go w/o foam dampening.
I took the 3 remaining plugs and installed 2 of them in the last open outlets in my Exact Power EP15 and the last one in the wall duplex ( Jena Labs cryoed) that powers the EP15 via a Elrod Sig. 3 power cord. Hit play on the player and immediately noticed a reduction in some Bass bloat and ringing that I had previously blamed on a room mode ( my room is well treated acoustically) ... as the Bass was noticeable cleaner it also cleaned up the midrange and a drop in the noise floor benefited the treble with more spray in the cymbals. Everything took a step in the right direction of neutrality and naturalness and my system sounded very very good before this tweak.
I have been following with great interest Al S and Alan M's posts on RFI coupling that causes ringing and decided to plug/block some more open outlets but didn't want to spend the $4 times 20 to 30 plugs at H/Depot.
My savior ... Walmart ... child safety plugs $2.46 per 40 .... after blocking up all the open plugs in the bathrooms, kitchen. mechanical room, and garage I returned to listen again ... expecting nothing I was very pleasantly surprised that the additional plugs provided additional gain in the same areas mentioned earlier. So back to Walmart for another 40 plugs. Short and sweet ...
I now have 72 child safety plugs installed in every open/unused duplex I could find in the house including outdoor outlets and yes the last 30 brought some additional gains in the reduction of the noise floor.
OK where am I going with this ... The child safety plugs do not engage the round safety pin so, I like Kenster felt this needed treatment also ... my method will be a little different than Ken's
When time permits I will visit my favorite auto parts store for some rubber vacuum tubing to stick in the safety pin hole and then revisit H/Depot for some small dowel stock which I will place in the opening of the vacuum tubing. Hopefully the rubber/wood comb in the safety pin hole will again take my system up another notch.
After the safety pin tweak will be the 193L choke tweak ...
