Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

Hello all,I think this is the right forum to post this to. I'm looking for a serious strobe light for setting the speed on my VPI Turntable SDS. I know that suggests a post to Vinyl Asylum, but I want advice from the electrical pros on this one. I'll ask where to get a marked table mat in Vinyl Asylum :)
I am looking for a precision instrument. I'm concerned that one that plugs into the wall will be susceptible to frequency variations in the power supply from the wall socket. How do the best strobe lights control this? I suppose if they convert to DC in the power supply it shouldn't be an issue, though, should it? Still, it is my suspicion that some lesser models just use the power source frequency as a starting point? I don't know - that's why I'm posting.
I don't need to spend mega-dollars if a top quality precision product can be had for 50 bucks. But I have recently learned just how tiny a speed error has to be on a good turntable for the results to be audible. And also how hard (and frustrating) it is to try to tweak it by ear.
Any suggestions are very welcome. All the best,
ccm
