Re: Need help repairing solid state amp!

Schematics are a big help, can usually repair without one, just takes more time.

The supply voltages are usually either marked or you can trace them back to the power supply. Check resistance supply voltages to ground, and supply voltages to each other. If you can disconnect the supplies for the bad channel, you can compare to the good channel and start lifting component leads. Usually it is a transistor(s) or diode(s) that is shorted, sometimes open. Next likely candidate is leaky/shorted capacitor.

After you replace the components that smoked, comparison ohm meter readings (to ground and opposing supply) one channel to another is usually very helpful in finding the problem. Follow the traces from the parts that burned, move upstream.

It does help to trace and draw out the circuit, but don't usually need to.
