I understand that when you play an instrument, resonance is part of its sound.
When you (re)play a CD, that resonance is recorded on to it and will not either be removed by damping your components nor added in by making them reverberate.
What you are adding is something else and it is covering something up.
Now the tricky bit...
If the basic sound of your system is "dead" then you seem to have a mismatch somewhere.
If you are losing what I will guess is low level information then I would wonder why or rather where, and, if you could figure that out, then you would probably have a system that sounded much better than it does now.
But what is it that is causing the problem?
One answer would be very inefficient speakers with too little power, but I don't think that's the case. is it?
Cables/ Perhaps.
Dirty power> That would certainly cause some loss of dynamics and ambiance.
