Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ.

I'm no expert but

Ferrous and ferrite are not equivalent. One refers to magnetic qualities, while the other is a specific type of compound made from iron bearing materials. Someone else closer to their college chemistry can be more precise for you.

It's my understanding that the PWs do contain a ferrous material, but I wouldn't automatically assume that they are completely and only of one material.

Originally looking at the design externally with no inside information and not having seen the patent, and having read a bit about permeability, etc., I tried to DIY them with coils of copper wire. It did NOT work, period. Dead useless, but did look like the PWs. Coulda fooled the unwary, but not those with ears.

Then I tried the real thing at Al's urging (and I'd seen and heard their impact on his system). At first I was unimpressed, but within 24 hours something happened (it wasn't my hearing that changed nor my taste) and the buggers were working as predicted. The more the merrier.

And, yes, you can put them over much (though not all) of your PCs to greater advantage. But they are NOT simple ferrous coils nor simple ferrites nor simple shields, I can assure you of that.

Al has explained the theory to me patiently on a number of occasions concerning magnetic or electrical standing waves, how different materials and geometries create and interact with these, etc. Wish I could do the same for those of you doubters, but I see that he's done so in many ways in many posts here.

So just try them and see. Unsatisfied after 24 hours? Get your money back. Your ears will probably convince you.
