Rightio then, a few more questions.

I have some stainless steel soup spoons but in checking them by eye I find their 'bowls' are not quite symmetrical.

Assuming that any shape is pressable, and that symmetrical bowls on soup spoons are common, I'll do a bit of checking around in the supermarkets / dep't stores for 'basic' cutlery. Mind you the sales staff are gunna think I'm weird - holding them up and checking the symmetry. ;-)!

Hmmmm goodwill stores, too!

I figure you then also have to mount - the cups/bowls - onto something so they don't 'roll with' the ball-bearing. Have to be horisontal (and is by-eye good enough?), use stiffish-mix repair type epoxy?

. Would epoxy really cope with the loads of my sand-box + marble top-slab + TD150, anyway?

MDF feet - offcuts bin at woodwork class - drill a central hole radius ~5mm smaller than the 'bowl'. fill hole with epoxy smooth off with spatula, squeeze bowl down*, and level by eye? Hopefully their will be *just-sufficient epoxy to fill in under the edges of the cup, and support them, in case of earthquakes, or me being DUMB.

Or should I cast each dish into that clear stuff that goes hard?

Would a typical soup spoon bowl 'go with' a 3/4 inch ~ 19mm stainless ball bearing? Bigger?

Will pretty much any new stainless steel ball-bearing do? standard of finish and sphericality?

This would add up to ~ > 2cms, no? that would be nice.

Would a 'machined smooth' cast cup / sectioned cylinder, be any better?

Dust / fine grit. Is it an issue, for these things to operate?! Dryish place by Aussie standards.

TIA

Warmest
