Beware of the point of diminishing returns. The resistance of the power transformer's primary and secondary are in series with the rectifier. For a >>>quick estimate<<< of the total resistance, just double the secondary's resistance.
5AR4 10V/0.25A = 40 ohms.
5V4 26V/0.175A = 148 ohms.
With a 150 ohm secondary (300 ohm primary + secondary estimate), changing rectifiers isn't going to help a lot.
I have had really good luck with "capacitance multipliers" at low voltages (24V). They should also work well at high voltages. Just beware of the SOA of the pass element.

Play safe and play longer! Don't be an "OUCH!" casualty.
Unplug it, discharge it and measure it (twice) before you touch it.
