I have three tube amps. One is an 845 SET,(LM218ia) the others are typical P-P variety at 40 and 60 watts per channel. Both are using KT88's at this point. In regard to weight and authority, the 845 SET at 22 wpc easily matches my 60 watt Erhard Elvis. Weight and authority being one of its strong suits. As much as I like the 845 SET, I simply wouldn't want it for my "daily driver". It's undoubtedly a power hog and it generates an enormous amount of heat. The operating voltages are scary enough to where I never let my frisky Goldendoodle in the room while I'm listening.
So much for the downside. The upside is that the LM218ia presents as sublime a presentation as I've heard in my little abode. Absolutely stunning on acoustic jazz for example....yet nearly blew me out of the room a couple days ago with big band. ( Harry James... Kings James Version) So as with any component, there's both upsides and downsides.
