Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

...and I need a little advice.
The amp is a Nelson Audio Image SE-8, a single ended pentode (EL-34) integrated rated at about 10 watts per channel. I'm matching it up with a pair of Klipsch RB-5II and so far I'm loving the combo. My only other experience with a tube amp is my phono stage (Pro-Ject Tube Box) and a Canary CA-608 integrated. The Canary was a great amp with lots of power but I had significant hum problems and returned it to the dealer.I'm about to buy some back up tubes and I'm wondering what EL-34's and 6SN7's are 'hot' and if there are any other tubes types that can be dropped in as alternatives.
Also what type of speaker cable works well with single ended amps, stranded, solid core, or any particular parameters I should be aware of.
Any advice would be appreciated,
Best regards,
Chris
