5AR4 tube does not light up

I have a tube phono amp with an external power supply. Upon powering up, I do not get any sound except that when the volume control on my preamp is turn up all the way I get a low level low frequency buzz. No music at all. Upon inspection I notice that all the tubes in both the power supply and the amp proper were lighted up except the 5AR4 tube. Assuming that the tube has died, I replaced the tube and still it does not light up and appears to be lifeless. If someone could give me some ideas of what might have happen it would be very much appreciated. I am keeping my fingers crossed thatg nothing serious and difficult to fix had happen.
