Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
My cheap chinese amp has been running well for a few months, I've rolled a few different tubes and am generally very happy. Last night it blew the mains fuse, no obvious signs of distress, no odd smell or anything like that, just no power anymore.I'm off to get a bunch of replacement 3Amp 250V fuses today, although I'm curious as to what caused it to blow in the first place. I have a couple of proposed strategies:
1. Swap out all current tubes (6550, 6SL7, 6SN7, 5U4GB) with the originals that came with the amp, replace the fuse and see if it blows again.
2. Take the base off the amp and look for obvious signs of something broken.
3. Try and borrow a variac.Any other suggestions or "no don't do X"?
thanks,
m.
