No, Dan, I'm not saying tube amps have mushy bass. I'm saying tube amps driven to clipping because of not opting for a "big?" enough amp to handle the impedence and sensitivity characteristics of a given speaker will result in mushy bass. You seem to completely ignore the fact that I have repeatedly said that I'm talking about clipping.The only reason I even metioned mushy bass was because the original poster seemed concerned about "small vs big" and I assumed he was talking about power in relation to his speakers.
The fact that tube amps can produce exceptional bass when properly matched to a given speaker design is not a matter of contention with me. Like you, I expect that from my systems and hear superb combinations all the time.
Like I said, I'm not taking exception to anyone concluding that I was bashing tubes as my original post didn't do a very good job of conveying my point and I already said that I could see where it could be misunderstood. That's cool, but we probably haven't done a bit of good trying to help the guy out.
