I doubt that "most people" could really care less whether tube watts are more powerful than solid state watts, so the assertion that "... most people suggest that tube watts are subjectively more powerful than solid state..." rings rather hollow.
And although valves may clip more gracefully than solid state, the point is moot... if your amp - tube or solid state - is clipping on a regular basis, then get a bigger amp.Asserting that mushy bass is common to all tube-based amps is incorrect... although there are certain tube types and certain tube amps that do indeed exhibit mushy bass, I've auditioned and owned many, many tube amps that have bass quality that rivals, and in some cases exceeds, the bass produced by any solid state amp that you care to name.
