Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

Those who are looking at eBay item 260074552488 beware!Yes, the two tubes are old German 1950 production CCa's, but they are not a pair.
Look carefully at the first picture, the tube on the right is Valvo Hamburg CCa with a pinched waist. (The Valvo Hamburg pinched waist does not have as pronounced a waist line as the Dutch Heerlen pinched waist.) The tube on the left is a different tube, it's a Siemens CCa. But both were branded as Valvo (which is legit, since it was common for tube manufacturers to buy tubes from each other to fufil orders). You can't really see closely the construction of the two tubes, but look carefully at the glass envelope and you will see enough differences. Other than one is a pinched waist and one is a straight bottle, look at the very sharp tip of the tube on the left and the finish of its glass on the bottom edges. And they are quite different in height (not random or accidental, the Siemens is invariably taller).
In the second pic, the jazzcat switches the position of the two tubes, the pinched waist is now lying down on the left, showing the Hamburg date code. Pay attention! The Siemens tube does not have that date code on the bottom, which is why he's not showing it. He's trying to give the "impression" of two tubes are the same, but they are NOT!
The third pic shows only a close-up of one tube, the Siemens CCa. If he were to show close-up pics of both tubes, you will see they are not the same.
Far from being a matched pair, these two are tubes made by two different manufacturers, with significant construction and sonic differences. I am not saying that these are bad tubes, but they are very differnt tubes. I have both so I know every subtle difference to look for.
Obviously he knows that the two tubes are not a pair, but he's intentionally trying to hide the differences and sell them like a pair. And he even dares to say that they are "matched"! He knows the "D6K" is rare and more valuable, so he's trying to pass the Siemens off as another "D6K."
Don't be fooled!
